Sterling Silver with Malachite, Pyrite and Swarovski Crystals
Malachite is named for the Greek work "mallow" which is a green herb. Malachite is a copper ore that comes in a brilliant green marked with bands of contrasting shades of the same green. Malachite is often found in copper producing areas such as Russia, Mexico, Australia, England, Southwest U.S.
Malachite was extensively mined at the Great Orme mines in Britain 3,800 years ago using stone and bone tools. Archaeological evidence indicates that mining activity ended around 600 B.C.E. Malachite was used as a mineral pigment in green paints from antiquity until about 1800. Malachite's most striking physical property is its green color. All specimens of the mineral are green and range from a pastel green, to a bright green, to an extremely dark green that is almost black. Never clean malachite with any product containing ammonia.
